The special trio are back and surprised us all with the announcement of their new album which dropped on the 9th September. WSTRN Season 3 is the trilogy following on from their highly successful tape ‘WSTRN Season, Vol 2’ which was released in 2019.
The band hailing from West London have brought us nothing but vibes over the last few years. They continuously drop those feel good bangers that instantly become part of our summer playlists even in the winter. Classic riddims like ‘Mama Stay’ and ‘Be My Guest’ have been fan favourites since their release in 2021. They always getting huge radio time and instantly hype the crowd in any setting from parties to brunches.
WSTRN let us all know something big was coming with the steady releases of their most recent hits with ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Professional Love’. ‘Wonder Woman’ has already amassed 10 million streams on Spotify, just signifying how popular this song has been over the past year. With the song being described as the perfect blend of afrobeats and dancehall. The well-crafted and choreographed visualizer for this adds a special essence to this tune. Showing that the group have no difficulties thinking outside the box with their artistry. They also followed the same pattern for ‘Professional Love’ – a real song for the ladies. You can tell that the group really focused on perfecting the melodies in this track.
The lead up to WSTRN Season 3 saw the group really hone in on their Caribbean routes. With the leading single of the album featuring massive dancehall artist Skillibeng for their track called ‘Unload (Reload)’. This one right here is a serious banger!
UK artists have not been afraid to feature dancehall artists and make UK anthems and we can add this one to the list. This feature gave the unexpected album drop its extra edge as fans would have loved to hear how a Skillibeng feature would sound on a Haille inspired WSTRN hook. Fans were not disappointed as Skillibeng delivered in his usual fashion, giving the melodic beat that gritty edge it needed.
WSTRN have blessed fans with surprise features that really give the album a Caribbean touch. Everyone knows how good Haille is – but to hear him go back to back with Dextap Daps on the tune ‘Influence’ is something special. A song that will really stand out on this tape as a real staple of the culture that influences the band which they are pushing forward within the scene. This can also be seen with the song ‘Free Up Yuhself’ which features another big Jamaican artist – Kranium. You can tell WSTRN were really in their bag with this tape considering the status of the artists they have chosen to features and make smooth bangers with.
Pa Salieu and Nviiri The Storyteller are also featured on this tape, providing their own unique spin on the theme of this body of work. A nice touch which shows the ability WSTRN have to be versatile and still make good songs. Overall, this is a smooth melodic album from the trio that will get lots of play time.
We are eagerly waiting for visuals for some of these bangers- hopefully with the tune featuring Dexta Daps. We know the ladies would love that!
“Every time I try a ting, top bins like Haille when he sings”
Stormzy mentions the levels that Haille consistently sets with his voice on each tune, and we all agree. Not only is this evident on the tape but we have seen this on the most recent Daily Duppy by WSTRN. This is 5 minutes of pure class. With Louis, Akelle and Haille really showing us their talented vocals and bars. The emotion is very evident in this Daily Duppy as they pour out their heart on personal experiences and how life currently is for them over the last few years. We are glad to see them get the recognition and flowers they deserve.
“When we say WSTRN season, we mean WSTRN for life.”
