Once again Ghana has come alive this Christmas as thousands from all over the world went back home to the motherland to celebrate festivities and soak up African music & culture during the annual party season.
From show-stopping performances by big names like Burna Boy, Meek Mill, & Tiwa Savage (to name a few) to partying till 7am at Polo Beach Club, Ghana did not fall short of enjoyment this Christmas and new year as many acclaimed artists came to headline at big festivals. Those including Afronation, Black Star Line Festival and the last ever announced Afrochella – which will no longer be returning despite being a success.
Founded by hip-hop artists Chance the Rapper & Vic Mensa and held at the Black Star Square (a monument in Accra built to commemorate the nation’s independence), Black Star Line festival drew in a massive 52,000 attendees and brought out a range of artists like Erykah Badu, T-Pain, and Sarkodie along with more special guests.
Sparks flew over social media as we were shown videos of Ms Banks, Tems, and Stefflon Don linking up in Ghana. A trio we never knew we needed which left thousands with FOMO.

Meek Mill was put on blast for secretly filming a video in Ghana’s presidential palace where he then issued an apology as it posed a potential security risk. It then almost went from dreams to nightmares for Meek as his performance at Afronation had some fans riled up to the point he even got pickpocketed although, the show still went on to be a success.
It seems that Ghana was the place to be this December as everyone came together to celebrate and connect with the many diversities of African art, culture, and music that so many identify with. Definitely an eventful yet fulfilling one to remember.
