‘Suttin 2 Prove’ is a five-track EP fully produced by That Producer Ryan, who’s worked with artists like Unknown T. Together, Skee and Ryan blend underground rap, R&B, and alternative rap into a unique sound that’s both raw and smooth. The duo consistently delivers, and this EP is no exception.
The project kicks off with Intro/2am on Beulah Hill, a gritty track that echoes old-school rap vibes. The beat shifts from a dark tone to something more upbeat, perfectly matching Skee’s narrative of ambition and struggle. He touches on paranoia and the constant interruptions from exes, which makes it a good intro as it sets up different perspectives on what the rest of the EP will explore.
Soliloquy stands out as the third track, diving deep into personal topics like losing a friend to an overdose and reflecting on friends and family in jail. This track isn’t surface-level; it’s a chance to really get to know Skee. His storytelling shines here, showing his growth as an artist with well-crafted lyrics that hit hard. This track is probably my favourite as I loved the storytelling element and it gave us listeners a chance to get to know Skee deeper.
Break Bread switches things up with a laid-back vibe, where Skee talks about his hustle and the bonds he shares with friends. It’s a smooth, easy listen that fits nicely into the EP’s flow.
Headlines/Outro is probably the catchiest track on the EP. The hook is memorable and has that replay factor that sticks with you. One of the cool things about Skee is how he weaves in little anecdotes, like mentioning the ‘196’ bus—a nod that myself & other South Londoners will appreciate. It’s those small, relatable details that enhance his storytelling.
Overall, “Suttin 2 Prove” proves Skee has exactly that—something to prove. This EP showcases his growth as an artist and leaves listeners excited for what’s next. It’s refreshing to hear rap that goes beyond the surface. My only critique is that I’d love to see Skee step out of his comfort zone a bit more, as some of the beats on this EP felt too similar. But all in all, it’s a solid project that hints at even greater things to come.
