Croydon 97.8 FM, a community-led radio station, should be congratulated on their triumphant leap to greatness, after the announcement by Ofcom that they have been given FM status.
The station, which was founded only 3 years ago by local citizen Clive Campbell, has experienced tremendous growth in such a short period of time. In 2018, the service was only available online, with only four presenters – but has now since expanded to forty-four.
Young people are constantly being recruited to the studio and encouraged to participate in the station’s activities. Whether it is to learn about radio production, broadcasting, or to get involved with outside projects like Boxpark Croydon, it is clear that they are not afraid to be the first stepping stone into a difficult industry.
Opportunities are being created for the community, by the community and we can only wish them everlasting success.
Keep an eye out on all social media platforms for when the station go live
