5 Underrated Female Singer and Male Rapper UK Collaborations

There are quite a few female artists that have had major collaborations with prominent UK rappers, however, some of these songs haven’t received the recognition we believe they deserve. In the US, when singers collaborate with rappers, more than often the song blows up and their careers are elevated. This is something the UK needs to change.

Here are our top 5 underrated UK singer and rapper collaboration that deserve more attention:

Sharna Bass x M Huncho – Broken Bottles

R&B songstress Sharna Bass has been taking the scene by storm and has recently dropped ‘Murda’, her latest track from her upcoming EP titled ‘Damaged Goods’. She provided melodious vocals for Clean Bandits’ ‘Extraordinary’ in 2014 which has surpassed over 40 million views on YouTube and K Trap’s Wild & Winning in 2018 which is on over 1 million views.

Another absolute banger Sharna has graced is ‘Broken Bottles’ taken from M Huncho’s classic ‘Utopia’ tape. She compliments M Huncho’s voice perfectly, adding her signature sweetened edge to the song.

Ling Hussle x Tion Wayne – Whenever You Call

Ling Hussle is definitely a fan favourite, her household name is ever-present during conversations about who represents the UK R&B scene. ‘On The Way’ and ‘Summer Nights’ are two of her classics that are definitely on our playlists. Let’s not forget her verse on Rebecca Garton’s ‘All Me – Part 2’!

Ling is due to blow any minute now and she is a constant reminder that there is a demand for smooth singers on hard hitting rap anthems. Her feature with Tion Wayne on ‘Whenever You Call’ on his mixtape ‘Waynes World 2’ released in 2019 really showcases her talent. Ling’s serenading vocals are a dovetail fit with Tion’s rapping style, especially as he was in his love tune bag throughout the song

Ray Blk x Giggs – Games

The Times described Ray Blk as “The inheritor of Lauryn Hill’s soulful crown”. She has previously won the BBC Sound Pill award as an unsigned artist which shows her huge capabilities. Ray has then gone on to write and perform ‘Warriors’, the lead track form the BAFTA nominated film ‘Rocks’ that premiered March of this year. Her career has gone from strength to strength and she is most certainly at the top of her game.

‘Games’ is an underrated feature with UK rap royalty Giggs. The pair enhanced this link up with a nostalgic and well-styled music video which really emphasised the theme of the song visually. With over 200k views on Youtube on Ray Blks channel it can be said that this song and video didn’t necessarily get the hype that it deserves.

Miraa May x WSTRN – Lights, Camera, Passion

The self-described “Tottenham songbird” first released her debut EP ‘The Beginning’ in 2014. From there, Miraa May has caught the ears of many, including star studded celebrities such as award winning producer Salaam Remi, who then produced her second Ep ‘N15′. The singer has gone on to score huge hits; Nafe Smallz’ ‘Bad for Me’ and ‘Angles’ with JME which has racked up over 10 million streams on Spotify alone.

Miraa May’s unique imprint can be best heard on WSTRN’s ‘Lights, Camera, Passion’. This is a hit on the WSTRN Season Vol.2 tape that wasn’t talked about enough. The hook sung by Miraa provided a sturdy platform for the group to glide their verses on with ease.

Ella Mai x Chip – Hit Me Up

Ella Mai - Wikipedia

The UK’s very own Grammy award winning Ella Mai took whole world by surprise with her breakout song ‘Boo’d Up’. It was awarded a Grammy for best R&B song and has surpassed over 320 million streams on Spotify. Ella moved to New York at the tender age of 12 to further pursue her music career and later signed to DJ Mustard. Her classic self-titled album ‘Ella Mai’ released in 2018 featured word-class artists such as Chris Brown, John Legend and H.E.R.

Ella Mai didn’t neglect the UK, she collaborated with Chip on ‘Hit Me Up’ on his album ‘League of my Own’. Although this video gained 20 million views on Chip’s YouTube channel, it did not have the desired effect of bridging Ella Mai’s sound with the UK rap scene as it was expected to.
