Growns, like many other east London artists has always had a love for music and decided to make music more than just a hobby with the positive reception of his first release.
Despite not having one single artist who inspires him, Growns instead has a motivation; his mum living a better life. Through his music he hopes it can happen.
Check out his song about his motivation entitled “For my mumma” below
The well documented success of UK artists such as Krept & Konan as well as Stormzy show that the UK rap scene is in the best shape it’s ever been and opens the doors to artists like Growns to shine too.
Growns states starting out in such a populated scene as difficult but as you progress and network, you can find people who you can work with and make things happen easier for you.
Besides persevering and getting a university undergraduate degree, Growns was regularly booked to perform at university events during his studies. Shutting down the raves with everyone singing his songs back to him was just the start as his first mixtape hit 2,000 downloads in the first week!

As a new artist getting the first wave of support is difficult and getting your name out there is harder than you would expect but after you do, you get the snowball effect and through blog features, videos, social media and a good management team Growns has a steady organic following and is gaining a lot of respect in the underground scene. Undoubtably there will be more challenges on the road to success but he’s hungry and ready.
